Christmas Fun!

Christmas was great this year!!! The kids got it this year for the most part. They had fun leaving cookies for Santa, and thought it was so funny that Rudolph smashed the plastic cup while attempting to drink the water they left for him. Cali got a "real" bike, which is the only thing she asked Santa for. You can see the footage of her riding it below. This was a big jump for her from the barbie big wheel and the occasional ride on Trent's bootscoot bike.



One of Trent's favorite presents was his "swordfights" as he calls it. Don't be alarmed at the fighting. They are made of Styrofoam (sp?) and do not hurt. Cost a whole $2/ a piece at Wal-mart and worth every penny. Trent is so happy. We just had too many girl things. Although, I'm not sure who enjoys them more...Tim or Trent. I just love to watch my boys play!

I'm Thankful For...

...the park, babies, baby hens and birds, slides and swings, bees, honey, Jesus, Santa Claus, popcorn, treats, William, Mom and dad, my bed, pillow, books, movies, pencils, people, friends, cars, trucks, ducks, bugs, butterflies, swimming pools, beach (Not me says Trent), waves (Not me says Trent), music, cows, horses, milk , grass, shorts, shirt, pants, shoes, animals, big airplanes and little airplanes, balloons, stars, rocks, shopping trips with Mommy, and that’s it. I'm done!

Fire Station Adventures

Today we went to the Fire Station, and we are all the more wiser and filled with more respect for these amazing men. The kids had a blast sitting in the truck and getting to hold and touch all the equipment. I was amazed that their uniform weighs 110 lbs once its wet.

It's Not About the Food

Will is now 1 years old. I have to say I really love this stage. They are able to do so much and their personalty really begins to show, yet they haven't hit the terrible twos (which by the way always begins at 18 months). For the most part I'd have to say that Will is very similar to Cali's personality (at least during the baby stage). Very calm and very observant, and for the most part really happy all the time. Today's lunch experience gave me just a little glimpse into what I'm going to expect in the next few years....

We were just sitting down to eat lunch. Will had plenty of food on his tray, but wanted something else. I tried milk, I tried food from my plate...but he just kept looking at my plate and saying Uh Uh Uh Uh, which is the only thing he can say besides Ma ma ma and Da da da and an occasional Ca ca ca. So I'm thinking great he wants my plate. So in an effort to keep him happy I reluctantly give him my plate, but keep a firm grip on it, because he is also in the I want to throw everything on the floor stage. To my surprise he's not interested in throwing the plate, he simply grabs handfuls of food from his tray with complete focus and concentration and puts them on the plate. He then proceeds to eat the food of which he has just placed on the plate. He smiles big...and he is now a happy, satisfied little boy.

From the Mind of a Child

Okay so my brother gave me this great book. I'm reading it to Cali and Trent...I get to the part where he squashes the chipmunk's house, and Trent stops me and says,"That's not a chipmunk. It has a long tail. Chipmunks have a little tail. " Now first of all I would have expected this type of comment from Cali not Trent..so I was stunned for a little while. Then my brain began to work again and I thought he's right, I don't think chipmunks have tails like squirrels. Granted I'm not a chipmunk expert. But growing up in NJ we certainly had a million chipmunks, and my Dad loved to catch them in traps and take them out to a field outside of town (the humane way to get rid of them), because they would eat the food from our garden.
So anyway now I'm left to wonder...is it possible a chipmunk can have a long bushy tail or should the writer, illustrator, or publisher have consulted a 3 1/2 year old before they published this book?




This one is from the mind of Cali. A little while ago we were watching a Sarah Palin clip, and it talked about how Sarah Palin was from Alaska. Sometime later Cali tells me she really wants to go to Alaska. Thinking it would have something to do with Sarah Palin, I ask her why she wants to go to Alaska. She responds,"Because Alaska is kinda like Alaska Girl." I was a little confused, and she explained, "you know Alaska girl from the movie...." Then I got it "Elasta Girl" (Sorry if I spelled it wrong. Only seen the movie once.)

DHS Blast From the Past

Okay so this was a total blast from the past, and I had a good chuckle to myself. Will got this awesome outfit from my mom from the Children's Place for his birthday! Amazingly it looks just like my pro-schola (pep club) outfit from sophomore year in high school. Did you do that on purpose Mom? Look he's even doing a cheer!
As many of you may know I was a Davis Dart. Yes... a Dart was our mascot. I'm a proud 3rd generation Dart. However, I remember dreading every time I had to wear that outfit, as I just thought brown and gold were hideous. Wow! Now my son is wearing it. Just to reminisce a little for all you Davis Darts, below is the Davis High Fight Song:

Chess

Cali has taken a liking to chess. I found this travel chess set amongst our stuff when we moved, and now she wants to play chess all the time. Problem...Mom has no idea how to play chess. Thank Goodnes Tim does. Maybe when Cali gets it down pretty good, she can teach me.

Happy Birthday William

Happy Birthday William
Will had his 1st birthday on the 6th. Daddy was out of town so we celebrated on Saturday. Will was a little apprehensive about the cake at first, but started to dig in once he realized how good it was. This was my first football cake...I thought maybe we needed something different from Trent's annual basketball cake.
Will didn't quite get the present opening, but Trent and Cali were happy to help him out in the process....and it seems as though they have made claim on the toy cars Will got from Grammy H. Aren't older siblings great!

New Blog, New Job, New Home!

Wow, things have changed a lot for the Texas Burninghams in the last few weeks. We have a new blog, a new job, and a new home.

Why a new blog...this one is lower maintenance for me and it frees up space for Tim's website.

New Job: Tim accepted a position with Ensign Facility Services to run a Nursing and Rehab Center for them. Right now he is putting in his hours to get his license. Should take about 6 months. He is excited at this new and challenging opportunity.

New Home: We have left Harlingen, and we now live in an apt in San Antonio for the time being. Once Tim is licensed he will have his own facility to run which will be in......we don't know yet. Hopefully it won't be too long before we will know.

Wow this was our 7th move in 6 1/2 years of marriage. However this one was probably the hardest, as we had lived in Harlingen twice and had spent about 3 years of our married life there.
So here's my list of things I will miss from Harlingen...No particular order.

1. Wearing sandals year round.
2. Never being cold...hmmm never wore a jacket, actually I don't think last year I even wore a long sleeve shirt.
3. Palm trees, felt like I was on vacation all the time..J/K.
4. Rice and charro beans (my favorite) served at every church activity.
5. South Padre Island-The beach
6. Great Friends
7. Going to the grocery store with 3 kids under 5...and people not looking at me like I was crazy even when they were screaming.
8. Everyone calling my daughter mama and my sons papas, then having to come up and touch their blonde hair.
9. Never having to use lotion. Something I didn't realize until we moved and now I'm putting it on like crazy all the time.
10. The simplest, kindest people I have ever met who love to laugh.
11. Going through the checkpoint and smiling when we would answer, "yes, we are all US citizens" and somehow feeling like we lived abroad.
12. The best Tomales you have ever tasted!

Wiggle car down the hill

We get a little bit bored here sometimes...and so this is the kids favorite activity each day! The kids are now making lots of friends with the neighbors, as it seems somebody new everyday joins us.
